Achiever 300 - Re-installing the original software for systems with a BOCA sound card

Question:
How do I reload my 300 series Ambra with the Boca sound card and Windows 3.1?

Answer:
Follow the steps below.

*** ATTENTION ***

If you follow the steps below, you will lose all your data and program files. The hard drive will no longer contain any personal information. If you have important files you wish to keep, please save them before going any further.

For this operation you will need:
The set of DOS disks
The set of Windows disks
The multimedia recovery disk
The driver and utility disk or multimedia driver disk (it will also say SE1440 on it)

Installing DOS:

1. Insert the DOS install disk number one and start the computer.
3. When DOS asks if you wish to install, answer NO or press the function key F3 to exit the installation.
5. If the install prompts you again you can press F3 again.
7. At the A:\> prompt, type the word "FDISK" and press Enter.
9. Choose option 3 and press Enter.
11. Choose option 1, then press Enter.
13. When you see the warning just press the Enter key.
15. It will then ask you for the volume label, it should be written under where it says VOLUME LABEL.
17. Enter the volume label and then press Enter.
19. When it asks you if you are sure, press Y and then press Enter.
21. Press the Escape key (Esc) to continue.
23. Choose option 1 and press Enter.
25. From the second menu choose option 1 and then press Enter.
27. When it asks you if you wish to use the maximum available space answer YES and press Enter.
29. Restart the computer.
31. At the A:\> prompt type "FORMAT C:" and press Enter.
33. When asked for a volume label just press Enter.
35. At this point you will be at the A:\> prompt again.
37. Type in "SETUP" and press Enter.
39. Whatever question that DOS asks during the install, just press Enter to accept the defaults.
41. When done just restart the computer.

Installing Windows:

1. At the C:\> prompt, insert the Windows setup disk number one.
3. Type in "A:\SETUP" and press Enter.
5. Choose the Express installation and press Enter.
7. When prompted Enter your name and company (the company is optional) then press Enter.
9. Complete the installation of windows, remove the last disk and the restart the computer.

Installing the CD ROM:

1. When back at the C:\> prompt, insert the Multimedia recovery disk.
3. Type "A:" and press Enter.
5. Then type "CDINST" and press Enter.
7. When the files have copied, you will be back at the C:\> prompt.
9. Type "A:" and press Enter.
11. Then type in "FINALCFG" and press Enter.
13. When the files have copied, you will be back at the C:\> prompt.
15. Remove the diskette and restart the computer.
17. When the computer is restarted you will automatically start into Windows.

Installing the sound and modem:

1. Insert the disk labeled DRIVER AND UTILITY.
3. Then click on FILE and choose RUN. Now type "A:\SETUP.EXE" and press Enter.
5. Just press Enter to accept the default installation, but when it asks if you have a CD-ROM you must answer NO, I do not have a CD-ROM, then keep pressing Enter to accept the default installation and it will copy the files.
7. It will then ask to modify the AUTOEXEC and CONFIG files, press Enter to accept, and when it asks if you want to Reboot press Enter and it will reboot. Your sound card and modem is now installed.
